Istanbul – Crete
Meeting 3 hours before departure at the Aegean Airlines counter in the International Departures Terminal of Istanbul Airport. After baggage and ticket procedures, we depart for Crete at 16:00 with Aegean Airlines scheduled flight A3435. Upon arrival in Crete at 17:30 local time, our tour of Crete begins with the vehicle waiting for us at the airport. Crete, said in legends to be the birthplace of Zeus, bears the traces of many civilizations deep in history. From the Minoan civilization to the Ottoman Empire, the island’s rich past is reflected in sights such as Plateia Eleftherias (Freedom Square), Agios Titos Church, Rasih Bey Mansion, Agios Minas Cathedral, the Ottoman Bon Marche Building, the Valide Sultan Fountain, the Evkaf Building, the Morosini Fountain, Ottoman Barracks, the Venetian Loggia, and the Venetian harbor and shipyards. After the city tour, transfer to your hotel.
Crete
After breakfast at the hotel, free time. Guests who wish may join the extra tour of Magnificent Towns (Spinalonga & Elounda & Agios Nikolaos) for 90 Euro. Our first stop is Spinalonga. After a short boat ride from Plaka port town, we arrive at Spinalonga, where we will explore the island’s historical structure and see traces from the old colony period. After enjoying the magnificent views, our second stop is the harbor town of Elounda. Elounda is a coastal town on Crete known for its luxury resorts, stylish restaurants, and beautiful beaches. After our break here, our final stop on the tour is Agios Nikolaos. Located on the eastern coast of Crete, Agios Nikolaos is one of the island’s popular tourist destinations. Known for its beautiful beaches, historical heritage, and surrounding natural beauty, the town takes its name from Saint Nicholas, who is regarded as the city’s patron saint. After the tour, transfer back to our hotel.
Crete
After breakfast at the hotel, free time. Guests who wish may join the extra tour of Magnificent Villages and Cities (Fodele Village & Rethymno & Chania) for 90 Euro. Fodele, the birthplace of El Greco, one of Crete’s most famous painters, is one of the popular tourist spots for its natural beauty and historical and cultural importance. The village is known for its traditional houses with typical Cretan architecture, narrow streets, and squares. After our visit to Fodele, our second stop is Rethymno. Rethymno, the third largest city on the island of Crete and one of its important tourist centers, has a rich historical and cultural background. Its historical texture dates back to the Venetian period, and many Venetian and Ottoman architectural works can be seen in the city. One of the city’s most famous landmarks is the Venetian Rethymno Fortress. The fortress is located right next to the city center by the sea and is a popular spot for both history enthusiasts and photography lovers. Rethymno’s narrow cobblestone streets, traditional houses, and inns in the old town create a historic atmosphere. Rethymno is also famous for its beautiful beaches. Especially the coastal areas in the south such as Platanias, Bali, and Georgioupolis are popular destinations where tourists can enjoy the sea and sun. Our final stop is Chania. Located in the western part of Crete and one of the island’s most important port cities, Chania is famous for both its historical texture and natural beauty. Also known as Hania, Chania is regarded as one of the most beautiful and most visited places in Crete. The Venetian Harbor is one of the city’s symbols and is surrounded by many historical structures. These include the Venetian Lighthouse, the Venetian Archaeological Museum, and the Maritime Museum of Crete. It also attracts visitors with its narrow cobblestone streets and traditional Greek houses. After spending pleasant time here, transfer to our hotel.
Crete
After breakfast at the hotel, free time. Guests who wish may join the extra tour of Knossos – Archanes Village for 90 Euro. Knossos is an ancient archaeological site located on the island of Crete and one of the most important centers of the Minoan civilization. On this tour, we will visit the Palace of Knossos, built in 2000 BC and the capital of the Kingdom of Minos, and then see the palace believed to be a legendary labyrinth with many rooms. After the tour, we head to Archanes village, which is close to Knossos and famous for its traditional stone houses, narrow streets, and olive groves. After our walking tour here, transfer to our hotel.
Crete – Istanbul
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport at the time to be announced by our guide. After baggage and ticket procedures, depart for Istanbul Airport at 15:45 with Aegean Airlines scheduled flight A3434. Arrival at 17:10 local time and end of our tour.
