Day 1 - Saturday
For the Mostra carnival, we start our procedures at the TURYOL check-in office at the entrance of the Çeşme customs port at 08:00 on Saturday morning. After passport control, our pleasant 30-minute journey by ferry begins in the blues of the Aegean. Upon arriving at the port of Chios, after our entry procedures, we place our luggage in the bus's trunk and start exploring Chios Island, the hidden treasure of the Aegean. Our first stop on the tour is ARMOLIA village, famous for its handmade ceramics for hundreds of years. Here, we will get to know the famous Mastic trees, which also give the island its name, up close and listen to very interesting information about this miracle of nature from our guide. After that, we will take a little break to visit one of the famous ceramic workshops. Our next stop is MESTA, which is the best preserved among the many medieval fortress-villages on Chios Island. It takes us on a journey back to the 13th century when it was built. We move through its labyrinthine streets until we reach the square in the center of the village and take a break. During this break, guests who wish can taste the island's natural ice creams, those who want can try the famous Greek coffee frappé, and others can sample the Fig Raki (Suma), produced only on Chios Island. After visiting the Taxiarchis Church, we leave the village. Our next village is PYRGI, which is unique in the world with its geometric shapes on the houses. Our guide shares detailed information about the ksista technique, which has been practiced for centuries from the Genoese to the present day. After seeing the house where Christopher Columbus stayed on Chios (although many people say it, nearly half of the villagers have the last name Kolombos :) we head to lunch. After a delicious lunch at a seaside tavern, we return to our hotel to rest and gather energy for the entertainment planned for the evening. At 20:30, we meet in the hotel lobby and head to the tavern where we will have dinner accompanied by live Greek music, unlimited ouzo, and wine. Guests who wish can continue to do sirtaki and break plates until the early hours of the morning.
Day 2 - Sunday
After breakfast, we take our seats on the bus and head to THYMİANA village, famous for its houses made of the local red stones, to watch the carnival events and parade. Although the exact start date of the MOSTRA carnival is unknown, its roots are based on a true story from the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, pirates have raided the island for its Mastic and wealth. One day, while the islanders were engrossed in entertainment, the lookouts warned them of approaching pirates. In the excitement of the celebration, the entire village ran to the shore and set a trap for the pirates. After a fierce battle, they repelled the pirates' attack and hanged those they had captured in the village square. In memory of this victory, every year on the last Sunday of the festival month, they reenact this battle with sword games known as 'talimi' and special costumes. Our lunch will also be during our free time in this village where the carnival takes place. Afterwards, we head towards the port. After passport control, we bid farewell to you with beautiful memories from the island.
